What is the best travel guide for Thailand?

Question by : What is the best travel guide for Thailand?
I’m English, and going to Thailand with a friend in June. We’re female, and 20 years old – both students, so as you can imagine we’re trying to do this on a budget! I can’t decide on which travel guide is right.

Younger travelers often use the Lonely Planet Travel Guide. That TG gives you some hotel and hostel recommendations that are not too expensive. Of course they also have a few selections on more expensive places. LP give s you a pretty good description of various tourist places and destinations. They also tell you where you can eat for cheap too!

You can also ask questions on the following travel forums. When you need advice on hotels always mention how much you want to pay per night to narrow down the suggestions you get. Also, if you ask advice on cheapest airlines or flight related questions it sometimes helps if you mention where you are flying from and when you are flying.

Below is a list of a few travel forums you might want to look at.

Go to a good Thai Restaurant. There’s a few good ones around Albury- Wodonga if you ever pass by this way. See what the Thai guys/shielas reckon. Your local library has some good travel books, too.

If you are flying into Bangkok as your first stop, take the bus from the Airport to Khaosan Rd 150Bht, or you can find your way using local transport for cheap, but if its your first time in Thailand this could be tricky. Once in and around Khaosan Rd you can find second hand guide books for a few dollars. There are hundreds of them around and it is probably not necessary to purchase a book before you come to Thailand unless you want to spend an extra $ 30.
