What is the best travel guide you have used?
Question by Star: What is the best travel guide you have used?
My brother’s birthday is coming up and he’s always dreamt of driving across the country. I would like to buy a travel guide book for his birthday, to help him make his dreams a reality, but I don’t know which one to buy. What’s a good book for a beginner traveler interested in taking scenic drives?
Thanks!

I like dk best because it has photos along with text and I am a visual person. But I would suggest getting him the book Lonely Planet USA. Another idea would be to set him a road atlas of the USA so he can see where national parks and forests are located.

The best travel guide is a good friend who has been there before.
If you’re looking for a book, the more specific it is, the better. A book covering an entire country is usually a waste of time. Some LonelyPlanet books that cover an entire country aren’t bad.
A book such as the APA Insight Guides that cover one specific city are great.
For the U.S., the Moon guides that cover one state are pretty good. If you’re driving across the U.S., your most important book is a Rand-McNally Road Atlas.
